1. Long lifespan, light weight, and small volume of lithium batteries
The power performance of lithium-ion battery electric bicycles is similar to that of lead-acid batteries (simple electric bicycles). After charging for 6-8 hours, they can run 30-45 kilometers depending on the battery capacity, but their weight is only about 1/5 of that of lead-acid batteries. The biggest advantage of lithium-ion battery electric bicycles is their long lifespan.
Statement: The price of lithium batteries is only superficial. In fact, the cost calculated carefully is similar to that of Lead–acid battery. Currently, lithium batteries are generally guaranteed for 2 years, and Lead–acid battery are guaranteed for 1 year.
2. Lithium batteries have no activation characteristics
When using lithium batteries, it should be noted that after a period of storage, the battery enters a sleep state, and at this point, the capacity is lower than the normal value, and the usage time is also shortened. But lithium batteries are easy to activate, as they can be activated and restored to normal capacity after 3-5 normal charging and discharging cycles. Due to the inherent characteristics of lithium batteries, they have almost no memory effect. Therefore, users do not need special methods or equipment during the activation process of new lithium batteries.
3. No memory effect
When consumers charge Lead–acid battery and nickel batteries, they are always worried about the memory effect of batteries. When lithium batteries are used, everyone can relax. Lithium batteries do not have memory effects.
Disadvantages of Lithium Battery Electric Vehicles
1. The high price of lithium-ion battery electric vehicles is due to lithium-ion batteries
At present, the price of lithium-ion battery electric bicycles is generally several hundred to one thousand yuan higher than lead-acid battery electric bicycles, making it difficult to gain recognition from consumers and customers on the market. Lithium batteries are lightweight, environmentally friendly, and will not cause environmental pollution after disposal. Once the application technology matures and the market sales increase, the price of lithium battery electric bicycles will decrease.
2. Long charging time for lithium batteries can backfire
Lithium batteries or chargers will automatically stop charging after the battery is fully charged, and there is no so-called "trickle" charging that lasts for more than 10 hours as described by nickel chargers. That is to say, if your lithium battery is fully charged and placed on the charger, it is also a white charge. And none of us can guarantee that the characteristics of the battery's charge and discharge protection circuit will never change and the quality will be foolproof, so your battery will be on the brink of danger for a long time. This is also another reason we oppose long-term charging.
In addition, on some electric vehicles, if the charger is not removed after a certain period of charging, the system not only does not stop charging, but also begins a discharge charging cycle. Perhaps the manufacturer of this approach has its own purpose, but it is clearly detrimental to the battery life. So after purchasing a lithium-ion battery electric vehicle, it is necessary to consult the enterprise or dealer to do a good job in maintaining the lithium-ion battery.
3. The power performance of lithium batteries needs to be improved
Compared with Lead–acid battery, lithium batteries are much less resistant to fluctuations in charge and discharge. This is a major symptom of the current high-power vehicles that can not effectively use lithium batteries, leading to reduced durability.
4. Outstanding safety issues with lithium-ion batteries
The safety of lithium batteries still needs to be improved. The hidden dangers of ignition, combustion, and even explosion of lithium batteries cannot be completely eliminated at present. A collision with a vehicle may cause the positive and negative electrode materials of the battery to break through the separator, and the energy quickly recharges to the battery during braking, resulting in ultra-high current and other reasons that can cause the battery to short-circuit, increase temperature, and cause combustion or even explosion. The cause of the fire is the precipitation of lithium ions caused by collisions and short circuits, which can cause fire and combustion when in contact with air. In addition, the electrolyte of lithium-ion batteries is organic electrolyte, which is more prone to ignition and combustion when in contact with air.
